People have gathered around the country to remember two years since the Hamas-led offensive on 7 October 2023, as talks proceeded in the neighboring country over a resolution to the hostilities in the Gaza Strip.

The incident resulted in more than 1,200 people killed and 251 others abducted away to Gaza as captives. It was the most most lethal day for Jewish people since the World War II.

Israel responded by initiating a military offensive in Gaza which has claimed in excess of 67,000 people, as reported by the region's Hamas-run health ministry. Its numbers are seen as accurate by the UN and other global organizations.

"The bloodthirsty opponents have caused great damage, but they have not defeated us," Benjamin Netanyahu added on that day.

He also vowed to "accomplish all the aims of the war: the homecoming of all the captured, the removal of the Hamas regime and the assurance that Gaza will not pose a danger to Israel".

Remembrance Ceremonies Across Israel

The national leadership rescheduled official commemorations until 16 October - after the end of the Jewish High Holiday season - but ceremonies still took place around the country on that day.

A memorial ceremony for the families of Israeli citizens who lost their lives in the Hamas assault was conducted in the coastal city. Put together by the victims' relatives, it was broadcast across Israeli television channels.

Hours earlier, a moment of silence was held around the country.

Negotiation Discussions in Egypt

Meanwhile, the conflicting parties' negotiating teams gathered in the Egyptian tourist destination of the Egyptian city for a second day of third-party negotiations to review the terms of the plan.

A prominent Palestinian official involved in the talks said that an late session of mediated discussions commenced at evening in Egypt.

The source said the earlier meeting ended without significant progress, due to conflicting views over the recommended Israeli retreat arrangements from Gaza and over safeguards Hamas wants to make certain Israel does not recommence hostilities after the initial stage of the agreement.

He commented that the talks are "difficult and have still not achieve any major advancement," but mentioned that intermediaries are working hard to narrow the disparities between the conflicting groups.

Key Issues in Discussions

  • A permanent ceasefire
  • The exchange of the captives still detained by Hamas for detainees from Gaza
  • The removal of military personnel from Gaza
  • Measures for assistance distribution
  • Post-war management of the area

Civilian Feeling

In Tel Aviv's memorial area previously, young Hagar - whose family member endured the attack on the gathering, where 378 people were killed and many more were captured by Hamas gunmen - told: "Nowhere feels like home anymore and until all the hostages are released no one will be secure."

"When we see all home returned, we can feel relief anew. Then we can commence recover," she added.

In front of Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu's residence in the capital, people congregated to demonstrate their solidarity for the families of the captives. Israel states nearly fifty remain in detention in Gaza, twenty of whom are believed to be living.

Activist one woman explained: "We need do every compromise required for the abducted to be released. But we sincerely need assurances that we will be protected."

Opinion polls now frequently demonstrate that approximately 70% of the population prefer the war to conclude in exchange for the release of the captives.

Palestinian Conditions

At the area of Nova festival, those paying respects assembled to pay their respects.

From the site, the noise of military attacks and artillery could be detected just a brief space away in Gaza, where local people reported the heavy Israeli attacks persisted.

In Gaza City, bombardments were reported in the early hours of Tuesday in the western neighborhood, area and zone areas and in the eastern neighbourhood of that sector, as well the camp to the north-west.

"When the night falls, the fear comes with it," evacuated Gaza City resident Emaan al-Wahidi, whose young son was killed by an Israeli air strike previously, shared.

"My family are afraid of the bombings. All the night we are sleeping together, clinging, particularly my smallest child who puts his face on me throughout the night."

"Every second we check the updates to see what happened. And I'm concerned that this truce will not be achieved and that the war will resume to us."

Health Crisis

Al-Shifa hospital in the urban area said it had received the bodies of several people by the daytime, including a trio who died in an Israeli strike in the southern al-Sabra neighbourhood.

Another medical facility in the south region of that area said additional dead people had been delivered. A person was killed by Israeli soldiers while attempting to get aid to the south region, medics reported.
