The 'Breaking Bad' Creator Reveals He Has a Plan for How His Sci-Fi Series Might Finish... For Now.

The creative mastermind never anticipated that his new science-fiction series would turn into a massive hit. “I am so grateful to the audience,” he states. “It was unexpected the show being as widely discussed as it is, and it makes me thrilled beyond words.”

As the debut season of the popular sci-fi show wrapping up—and Season 2 greenlit and underway—the writers' room opened up about the audience reaction and whether it will shape the narrative path of Pluribus.

Regarding the Tremendous Fan Response

It would be easy to get distracted by the constant speculation and online debates surrounding Pluribus. Gilligan, however, is striving to ignore the noise.

“The experience is akin to force fed hot fudge sundaes and being in a state of bliss,” he describes. “It's wonderful, but I hear about it anecdotally, and that's by design. I have never Googled myself, nor do I ever plan to. It's quite the opposite. It's a bottomless pit I know I would fall into and then I'd be pooping in a five gallon bucket from the hardware store and I'd be stuck in my living room.”

Regardless of trying to stay away, there’s no way to avoid the immensely favorable response to the series. The most practical strategy is to accept it graciously and try not to let it influence the direction of the show.

“We don't try to change the plot,” says writer and executive producer Alison Tatlock. “The plot we develop is not impacted by audience chatter.”

“It's wiser to keep our heads down and working,” he chimes in.

A Pressing Query: Has the showrunner Have a Plan for the Conclusion of Pluribus?

Given that Gilligan and his team are not listening by fan response, can we assume they already know how Pluribus will ultimately end? Essentially yes… sort of.

“We've developed some interesting ideas about where the show might end up,” Gilligan reveals. “yet we stand ready to throw out a good idea for a more brilliant plan. That philosophy has guided us in well on Better Call Saul and on Breaking Bad even before that. We throw stuff out when we conceive of something superior and I expect we'll continue doing that.”

Alternatively, if they hit a wall, executive producer Gordon Smith has a rather amusing idea to serve as a last resort.

“I constantly suggest that it's all in a snow globe, and that we'll pull back at the end and that's where they've been all along,” Smith quips, “but no one is buying it.”

Of course, why not reference the legendary finales?

“I want Carol to awaken beside Bob Newhart,” Gilligan says with a smile.

Pluribus is currently available on the streaming service.
