The Fifth Toy Story Film Trailer Sets Woody and Buzz Versus a Digital Device
Exactly 30 years since the first Toy Story film debuted, launching the animation giant as a leading film company and bringing viewers to beloved characters like Woody (Tom Hanks) and the space ranger (Tim Allen), who are now famous worldwide.
In 2026, the next chapter is scheduled for release. The initial preview for Toy Story 5 landed this week, offering a brief look into the plot but keeping fans curious how it will address the conclusion of Toy Story 4.
The Latest Addition: A Frog-Shaped Tablet Spooks the Gang
The preview reveals the young girl — who received the toy collection when he grew up — receiving a brand new plaything, one that terrifies Woody, Buzz, and the crew. Bonnie acquires her initial digital gadget, and she is excited about it.
Presumably, the amphibian-inspired device will animate just like Bonnie's other toys. Still, the characters appear to consider it as a threat coming to replace them, which it probably is.
Woody's Return: Mysteries from Toy Story 4
An element the teaser doesn't touch on is why Woody is returned with his companions in Bonnie's room. The end of Toy Story 4 saw him set off on a fresh journey with the shepherdess (Annie Potts), traveling with a carnival and helping giveaway items find good homes.
Surely, Pixar will address the aftermath of Toy Story 4 in the movie. Seeing him show up in the familiar setting unexpectedly is a little strange, however. It also makes us wonder whether his partner will have come back with him. And where is Duke Caboom (the star)?
Connections from the Last Installment
At the very least, some aspects are carrying over from the prior film. The final act the cowboy did before setting off for his new life was pass his sheriff badge to the cowgirl (the voice actor), leaving her as the leader of Bonnie's bedroom. In the teaser shows the badge attached to her shirt.
It is hoped she is still the key figure among the group.
Toy Story 5 arrives in theaters on June 19, 2026.
