The former Liverpool manager states rejoining to coach Liverpool is conceivable.
The German coach, who stepped down from Liverpool in 2024, remarked that a future comeback remains a possibility. The 58-year-old, after a transformative nine-year spell which brought Champions League success and ending the club's long wait for three decades, currently occupies roles overseeing worldwide football for Red Bull and in an advisory capacity to Germany's league body.
Supporters’ Hopes and Klopp’s Candid Remarks
The club claimed the league title last season, yet numerous supporters holding him in high esteem would be thrilled by the notion of his potential comeback. During an extensive chat, he told Steven Bartlett: “I said I refuse to lead any other side on English soil. So that means if then it’s Liverpool...yes. It's plausible.”
“At 58 years old, which suggests the choice could be mine in a few years, I don’t know. Must I choose now? If so, I wouldn't return. Luckily, it's not necessary. I'll simply watch what lies ahead.”
Conditions for a Comeback
Pressed on the specific conditions would need to occur to tempt his return to the touchline, he confessed he feels no immediate pull toward coming back. “I'm not entirely sure, My present work fulfills me,” he commented. “No longing for management; I don’t miss standing under bad weather for two-and-a-half or three hours; No need for press conferences four times, three times a week or having 10-12 interviews a week.
“I don’t miss the dressing room as a dressing room, however, dining out alongside the squad talking freely, is pleasant. We won a lot of games thus frequently positive atmosphere at the club. Remaining with me is the captain's chuckle vividly recalled for example.”
Praise for His Successor
Klopp was full of praise of the current boss, crediting him due to the changes which secured the championship last term. The team has suffered four consecutive matches across various tournaments post heavy investment, though he denied the notion it could be a slump.
“[Liverpool have] a phenomenal forward like Florian Wirtz, critics will regret if you use the wrong words. An outstanding player. Ekitike, incredible player. It’s a really good balanced team. You don’t have to worry regarding the Reds, things will improve.”
Heartfelt Words for Diogo Jota
The manager expressed deep feeling about the death of Diogo Jota, a 2020 acquisition during his tenure, and its impact for the team. Jota was killed in a road accident together with his sibling this past summer.
“Who can fill the void of somebody like Diogo? It’s not about the player himself, his personality mattered. It's hard to picture the team environment missing him. I find it difficult to discuss about it. A devastating blow for the entire squad too. Nobody at Liverpool might employ it as an excuse though it's a fact. Being in that space where his spirit remains. Dealing with that on a personal level is challenging. Overwhelming.”
